Wireless Solution: Mobile Technologies From Epson And Symbol Provide Seat-Side Concessions At Angel Stadium Of Anaheim

Mobile POS Boosts Sales, Keeps Fans and Concession Staff Happy

Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, announced that Angel Stadium of Anaheim is utilizing Epson Mobilink(TM) wireless POS printers and Symbol PPT8800 mobile computers to deliver seat-side concession service to baseball fans. Up and running since July 2006, the mobile POS installation allows fans to order, receive and pay for concessions seat-side, boosting sales and enhancing customer service. In addition, concession staff workers using the mobile POS benefit from increased tips and less running, which helps reduce staff turnover.

With a seating capacity greater than 45,000, Angel Stadium offers three full-service restaurants and over forty concession options. In order to speed up and enhance concession service to fans, value-added reseller Custom Business Solutions (CBS) worked closely with Epson to install and support the 33-unit Mobilink and Symbol POS rollout in three areas of the stadium, including in-seat concessions in club-level seating, along the first and third base lines and directly behind home plate.

"We've had good success with the mobile POS solution, and we're pleased with the service it provides our fans at Angel Stadium," said Angels' President Dennis Kuhl. "It's been a very positive experience."

"Fans who don't want to miss a play can order more than just a hotdog without leaving their seats," said Art Julian, CEO at CBS. "With the mobile POS solution, servers can offer a broader range of concessions, allowing significant sales lift in these areas."

Concession staff carrying mobile POS units remain in the stands ready to place food orders. Once entered into the Symbol mobile computer, the order is transmitted directly to the kitchen for preparation and delivery. Concession "runners" deliver the order while concession order takers process payments seat-side and print receipts from the Epson Mobilink printers attached to their belts. This process decreases the turnaround time from order to order delivery.
